Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. The Puncak Jaya Sub-regional Police have received reinforcements from the Timika-based Mobile Brigade (Brimob) unit, with 20 officers deployed to strengthen security in the region following violent clashes between supporters of two rival candidates in the Puncak Jaya regional election.
Puncak Jaya Police Chief Superintendent Kuswara confirmed on Sunday (16/2/2025) that the Brimob personnel had arrived in Mulia and joined existing security forces at the local police headquarters.
"We continue to urge the public to remain calm and not be provoked. We will ensure security and order in the region," he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
Since early February, two incidents of violent clashes—on 5 and 12 February 2025 —have resulted in two fatalities, 163 injuries, and the burning of 55 homes.
Authorities, including the police, military, local government, and community leaders, continue to urge both sides to refrain from further violence. Central Papua Regional Police Chief Brigadier General Alfred Papare has also returned to Mulia to oversee security measures firsthand.
