Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. The Head Division of Papua and West Papua Bulog, Ahmad Mustari says the rice stock in Bulog warehouse spread across Papua island is up to 32,000 ton.
The number could have enough to fed the people in the island for three and a half month as the number also keeps growing.
"We have sufficient rice stock as its stock from the rice centers in South Sulawesi and East Java are increasing," says Mustari on Friday (1/24/2025).
He said the rice stock would later be distributed for food aid, food supply and price stabilization programs.
In addition to importing the rice from Sulawesi and Java, Bulog also buys rice from farmers in Merauke. In early January 2024, Bulog had bought 67 tons of rice from farmers in Merauke at a price of IDR 12,000 per kilogram.
When asked about the need for rice for the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, he admitted that he had not yet confirmed whether the rice served was a Bulog product or not.
"However, we are still giving our support and if they need the supply, we are ready," concluded Mustari
