Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Central Java Regional Police confiscated approximately 67.4 kilograms of hazardous chemicals suspected for illegal firecracker production during a four-day operation ending Friday.
The crackdown, spanning the regencies of Batang, Magelang, and several other r, targeted substances including sulfur, potassium chlorate, and aluminum powder often misused during the fasting month of Ramadan period.
"This preventive measure aims to ensure public safety and comfort, particularly for those observing Ramadan," said Senior Superintendent Artanto, the Central Java Police Head of Public Relations, on Saturday (21/2/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.
He noted that while these chemicals have industrial uses, unauthorized possession for explosives violates the Criminal Code. Following the operation, the Gegana bomb disposal unit destroyed 28.6 kilograms of the seized materials in Batang.
The move was taken after three recent accidental explosions in Grobogan, Kendal, and Wonosobo that injured several teenagers. Authorities are now tracing online distribution networks and social media platforms used to trade these dangerous substances illegally.
