Central Java Police Uncover Java-Sumatra Drug Network

The Central Java Regional Police uncovered a major drug trafficking case, arresting four suspects and seizing 52.08 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and 35,050 ecstasy pills Inspector General Ahmad Luthfi, the Chief of Central Java Regional Police, noted the involvement of the suspects, identified as TO, RW, PR, and GDA,  in a drug distribution network across Java and Sumatra. "The first case was uncovered in the Sragen area on 12 January 2024, where suspects TO and RW were arrested, along with evidence comprising 1.010 kilograms of sabu and 250 ecstasy pills," Chief Luthfi said on Monday (26/02/2024), referring to methampetamine. Subsequently, suspects PR and GDA were arrested at the Cikande Toll Gate, Serang Regency, Banten, leading to the discovery of 51.0704 kg of sabu and 34,800 ecstasy pills in a box truck, masquerading as beverage sales. "The suspects confessed to economic motives, claiming they were paid up to Rp. 200 million per delivery," Chief Luthfi elaborated, saying that their arrests could save nearly 300,000 lives from drug abuse. The suspects now face charges under multiple articles of Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics, with penalties ranging from death, life imprisonment, to 6-20 years' imprisonment, and fines. (ar/fa/pr/nm)
