Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has extended the weather modification operation until 27  March 2024, aiming to mitigate the impact of rainfall-triggered floods in several areas of Central Java. Abdul Muhari, the Head of the Data, Information, and Communication Center for Disaster Management at o the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), said on Saturday (23/3/2024) that the extension was due to ongoing climatic conditions. Rainfall, expected to cover over 70% of the region, including Demak and Kudus districts, necessitated continued intervention, he added, as reported by antaranew.com Successful control of rainfall is imperative for the timely repair of breached Wulan River embankments, critical in preventing future flooding disasters. As efforts continue, the Mbugel and Norowito embankments each havve been extended by eight meters out of their total 30-meter length. Floods have severely impacted the region, with hundreds of thousands of homes submerged, leading to the evacuation of 92,000 residents to emergency shelters in Demak and Kudus.  The Demak-Kudu highway remains closed due to the flood.
