Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, revealed that the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has approved the transfer of the flight information region (FIR) from Singapore to Indonesia. Luhut shared this development, noting that previously Singapore held sway over airspace spanning the Riau Islands and Natuna at altitudes of 0-37 thousand feet. He received this update during his health recovery in Singapore on 11 January 2024, as reported by antaranews.com Following a 60-day transition period, Indonesia now fully governs airspace previously under Singapore's FIR. This shift, Minister Luhut emphasized, will enhance safety, competitiveness, and attractiveness of Indonesia's airspace to the civil aviation industry, aligning with international standards. In addition to the FIR transition, Indonesia and Singapore have enacted defense cooperation and extradition agreements, marking significant bilateral progress. Minister Luhut highlighted President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Long's diplomatic efforts that facilitated these agreements, crucial for both nations' strategic interests. While emphasizing national interests, he underscored dialogue and communication with all stakeholders, in line with President Jokowi's directives, to bolster bilateral ties while respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity.
