Inp.polri.go.id - Palangkaraya. The Central Kalimantan Regional Police optimized firebreak construction and peatland soaking operations in Banturung, Bukit Batu District, Palangkaraya, to prevent forest and land fires from spreading to residential zones and productive land.
Central Kalimantan Police Chief Inspector General Iwan Kurniawan said that firebreaks serve as a critical barrier to suppress flame propagation across high-risk peatland terrain.
"I emphasize to all field officers to optimize firebreak construction as a strategic step to prevent flame expansion," he said on Saturday (10/10/2026)).
A joint task force comprising military soldiers, police officers, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), and Ministry of Forestry’s Manggala Agni continues suppression and cooling efforts across affected areas. Officers face severe field obstacles, including dense smoke and subsurface peat embers that remain ignited underground.
Data from the Central Kalimantan Land and Forest Fires Emergency Response Command Post as of Thursday recorded a cumulative total of 5,937 fire incidents covering 17,530.18 hectares of burned land.
Police urged residents to refrain from land-clearing through burning and report potential hot spots immediately.
