Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Chief Justice of Indonesia, Muhammad Syarifuddin, has called on all members of the judiciary and their families to refrain from engaging in online gambling, citing it as a worrying trend.

In a statement on Friday (19/7/2024), he emphasized the judiciary's duty to protect family members and the public from the spread of online gambling.

"We must contribute to the eradication of online gambling in collaboration with the government and all related elements," Chief Justice Syarifuddin said during a guidance session for judicial apparatus in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara, on Thursday.

He highlighted the growing prevalence of online gambling as a serious concern, noting that it is a negative consequence of technological advancements that need to be addressed.

"This situation is very concerning and requires serious attention and firm action from all parties. We are responsible for protecting every family member and the broader community from the spread of online gambling," he asserted.

The Chief Justice reminded that President Joko Widodo has instructed a task force, led by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Hadi Tjahjanto, to combat online gambling.

"This may eventually lead to legal enforcement that will end up in court," he added.
