Inp.polri.go.id -Batam. The Indonesian authorities have deported 153 Chinese nationals who were suspects in romance-based fraud, commonly known as "love scamming," through Hang Nadim International Airport in Batam, Riau Islands, on Wednesday (20/9/2023).
"The 153 individuals, Chinese nationals who are suspected of engaging in love scamming, have been subjected to law enforcement efforts by the Riau Islands Provincial Police, in collaboration with the Indonesian National Police Intelligence Division and the Directorate General of Immigration, and have been deported to their home country, China," said Inspector General Krishna Murti, Head of the Indonesian National Police (INP) International Relations Division, as reported by antaranews.com.
He disclosed that these suspects were deported back to China using three aircraft and were escorted by 300 Chinese law enforcement personnel.
They were detained following two separate police operations since August 2023. In the first operation, 132 suspects were apprehended by the Riau Islands Provincial Police, and in the second operation by the West Kalimantan Provincial Police led to the arrest of 21 Chinese nationals implicated in similar fraudulent activities.
