Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Cirebon City Sub-regional Police in West Java confirmed Tuesday that viral reports of a so-called “pocong terror” linked to robbery are false. Police said no incidents or complaints have been recorded regarding the issue.

Cirebon Police Chief Senior Superintendent. Imara Utama said, “We ask residents to remain calm and not easily believe information without clear sources or evidence.” 

He said that officers found no factual basis for the claims circulating on social media.

The pocong is a ghost figure in Indonesian folklore, depicted as a corpse wrapped in a burial shroud. The myth was misused in false reports to create fear. 

Authorities warned that spreading such hoaxes can trigger public panic. Residents are urged to contact the police hotline 110 to report suspicious activity, according to antaranews.com on Wednesday (27/5/2026)

Chief Imara stressed that security in Cirebon remains stable and advised the public to verify information before sharing it further.
