Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. The Head of the Damai Cartenz Task Force, Brigadier General Faizal Rahmadani, confirmed that Indra Guru Wardana, shot dead by an armed criminal group (KKB) in Asmat Regency, South Papua, was a civilian and not a member of the military or police.
“The victim was a local resident of Urakin Village, Kolf Braza District. Claims by KKB that he was a military or police officer are untrue,” he said on Thursday (25/9/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
According to police reports, six attackers from Yahukimo shot Indra on Sunday before setting his house on fire. The assailants were armed with a long-barreled weapon.
The remote location of Urakin, coupled with poor communication access, has hindered efforts to gather further details. Following the incident, health workers and teachers stationed in Kolf Braza and Suator districts evacuated to Agats, the capital of Asmat Regency, due to security concerns.
