inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Communication and Information Minister Budi Arie Setiadi explains the Early Warning System (EWS) will not only send disaster messages through SMS Blast, but also through Digital TV. The system collaborates with Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB), Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVBMG), and Regional Board for Disaster Management (BPBD).

Now EWS is developed by Disaster Prevention Information System (DPIS) which is a grant from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The disaster messages will be delivered more quickly so people can get the information faster. DPIS has also been integrated with several parties in state disaster agency, such as 112 call centers.

“DPIS is also ready to be further integrated with disaster and emergency officers and volunteers in various ministries, institutions, and related regions," he continued.

In order for people to receive the DPIS message on their television, the public must have a digital TV that has a Set Top Box (STB) registered to the Communication and Information Ministry. Then, enter the postal code according to the domicile. Later, if there is a disaster near the location, a warning will appear on the television. There are three levels of warning, namely alert, standby, and watch out.

"I hope that the digital TV EWS system, DPIS, and SMS blast can facilitate coordination in providing responsive assistance, as well as reduce the impact on the community and the environment," concluded the Minister of Communication and Information.
