Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs is planning to restrict social media access based on age to enhance child protection in the digital space.

Communication Minister Meutya Hafid announced on Sunday (2/2/2025) that a special task force has been formed to evaluate these restrictions and other child safety measures.

The team includes representatives from various ministries, academics, child protection organizations, psychologists, and experts like Kak Seto from the Indonesian Child Protection Commission. Their work begins on 3 February 2025, with a target of one to two months to finalize recommendations.

“This initiative follows the President’s directive to strengthen child protection online,” Minister Meutya said, as reported by antaranews.com.

Indonesia ranks fourth globally in child access to pornographic content. Other concerns include online gambling, cyberbullying, and child exploitation. Internet penetration is high among Gen Z (87%), while nearly half of post-Z children are online, spending most of their time on smartphones.
