The West Aceh Prosecutor's Office has carried out the punishment of 154 lashes on RD, 26, a resident of Iku Lhung village, Labuhan Haji, Southwest Aceh Regency, following his conviction for rape. "The lashing was carried out in accordance with a Supreme Court's decision dated 19 February 2024," Siswanto, the Head of the West Aceh Prosecutor's Office, said on Thursday (7/3/2024). He explained that RD had been found guilty of rape in violation of Article 48 of Regional Regulation No. 6 of 2014 on Jinayat Law, which refers to a legal system based on Islamic jurisprudence, particularly concerning criminal law and punishment. The Supreme Court sentenced the defendant to 165 lashes, deducting the period of his arrest and detention from the sentence imposed.  However, since RD had been detained for 298 days in this case, he deserved to have 11 lashes deducted based on the law. Upon completion of the 154 lashes, RD will be released as he has served the sentence imposed by the court. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
