Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. The Damai Cartenz Task Force and Sarmi Sub-regional Police arrested a 52-year-old man suspected of acting as a middleman in the distribution of firearms and ammunition to armed criminal groups (KKB) in Papua Mountains.
The arrest took place on Saturday at Sarmi Central Market.
Damai Cartenz Task Force spokesperson Senior Superintendent Yusuf Sutejo confirmed the arrest of the suspect, identified as YK,, noting it was part of ongoing investigations into illegal weapons supply chains.
“This case is linked to networks suspected of supplying armed groups in Yalimo and Yahukimo,” he explained on Sunday (7/6/2026)
Investigations revealed that the suspect previously received a firearm and ammunition in March 2026, allegedly later transferred to groups connected to Simeon Payage. Authorities seized suspect YK’s personal belongings, including mobile phones, identity documents, banking cards, and cash, for further analysis.
Since March 2026, the task force has detained 12 suspects tied to the illegal weapons trade, confiscating 298 rounds of ammunition, four SS1 rifle magazines, one homemade firearm, and six rusted gun barrels from past conflicts.
Dami Cartenz Task Force Commander Inspector General Dr. Faizal Ramadhani emphasized the importance of dismantling these supply chains.
“We are committed to cutting off all illegal weapons networks that fuel violence and threaten public safety,” he said.
Damai Cartenz Task Force Deputy Commander Senior Superintndent Adarma Sinaga added that investigators are intensively questioning suspect YK to uncover distribution routes and other individuals involved.
