Inp.polri.go.id - Tolikara. The Damai Cartenz Task Force, the Tolikara Sub-regional Police and Illu Police Office officeres evacuated victims of a shooting targeting road construction workers in Kali Kabur, Kanggime District, Tolikara Regency, Papua Mountains, on Sunday.

Damai Cartenz Task Force Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Yusuf Sutejo confirmed on Monday (3/8/2026) that the incident resulted in five fatalities and five survivors.

"Based on preliminary data, five people passed away due to gunshot wounds and severe assault, while five others were safely evacuated," he said.

Four deceased victims and the five injured survivors were transported to Mulia Regional Hospital and Karubaga Regional Hospital for medical treatment and identification. One deceased victim remains in the identification process.

Damai Cartenz Task Force Head Inspector General Faizal Ramadhani expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims, reassuring that police forces are conducting a thorough investigation to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice. 

Authorities urge the public to refrain from circulating unverified media or claims while the investigation continues.
