Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Damai Cartenz Task Force has launched an intensive investigation to identify the perpetrators behind a deadly assault at SMP YPK Yakpesmi Dekai junior high school in Yahukimo, Papua Mountains. 

The attack, which occurred on Monday morning, resulted in the death of 41-year-old civilian Daniel Datti. According to witness accounts, three assailants armed with long-range homemade firearms and bladed weapons chased the victim into a teacher's lounge after shots were fired behind the school. The violence also resulted in significant property damage to classrooms and a nearby vehicle.

"Currently, joint forces are focused on an intensive investigation to uncover the perpetrators and ensure community security remains maintained," said Brigadier General Faizal Ramadhani, the Head of Operation Damai Cartenz, on Wednesday (4/2/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.

Authorities have deployed the Yahukimo Sub-regional Police Criminal Investigation Unit to secure the scene and collect evidence while increasing both open and closed patrols across the district.
