Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Damai Cartenz Task Force identified two leaders of the armed criminal group (KKB) operating in Yahukimo, Papua, as violence against civilians continues to escalate.
“There are two KKB commanders in Yahukimo, namely Elkius Kobak and Kopitua Heluka, whose groups frequently attack both residents and security forces,” said Brigadier General Faizal Ramadani, the Commander of Damai Cartenz Task Force, on Wednesday (24/9/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com,.
He confirmed that the evacuation of villagers targeted by the group has been delayed due to heavy rain in Dekai district since Tuesday, making access to the area impossible. Authorities have yet to confirm the number and identity of victims, many of whom are believed to be illegal gold miners.
In April, KKB fighters attacked miners in Yahukimo, killing 16 people.
