Inp.polri.go.id - Timika. The Damai Cartenz Task Force intensified security around Bazemba Village, Sugapa District, Intan Jaya, Central Papua, following gunfire at 9.45 am local time over the weekend.
"Our first response was to pursue and secure the area. Upon arrival, the team conducted a sweep to ensure safety," said Brigadier General Faizal Ramadhani, the Head of Ops Damai Cartenz Task Force, in a statement, as quoted by antaranews.com.
According to Intan Jaya Sub-regional Police, two unidentified persons, suspected to be from the Free Papua Organization (OPM), were involved. Security forces returned fire twice as an initial response.
"Thankfully, there were no casualties. To prevent further incidents, we have tightened security around the location,"Chief Faizal added.
Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent Yusuf Sutejo, the Damai Cartenz Task Force urged residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activity.
Authorities continue patrolling and investigating to maintain stability in Intan Jaya.
