Inp.polri.go.id - Jember. The number of fatalities from a deadly bus crash on the Mount Bromo route in East Java rose to nine after a critically injured victim, Betty, a nurse, died at Bina Sehat Hospital on Tuesday evening (16/9/2025).

“Betty passed away at 5:58 pm before reaching the operating room,” said Dr. Faida, the hospital director. “The surgical team was on standby, but her condition deteriorated rapidly.”

The bus, carrying 52 passengers including staff and families from Bina Sehat Hospital, lost control due to brake failure while descending a curved section of the road. It collided with a guardrail and a passing motorcycle. Eight others had died at the scene, and dozens sustained serious injuries, according to antaranews.com.

The crash also claimed three members of a single family: cleaning service staff Hendra Pratama, his wife Wardatus Soleha, and their daughter Aiza Fahrani Agustin. Authorities confirmed the victims had been traveling to Bromo for a graduation celebration.
