According to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the seismic event was centered in the sea at coordinates 6.54° S and 130.76° E, roughly 170 kilometers northwest of Southeast Maluku.
The tremor occurred at a significant depth of 118 kilometers, which typically reduces the intensity of surface shaking and the risk of coastal waves. BMKG officials confirmed shortly after the event that there is no potential for a tsunami, as reported by antaranews.com
As of Sunday morning, local authorities and disaster management agencies have not received any immediate reports of casualties or structural damage.
