Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police's Special Detachment 88 (Densus 88) Anti-Terror Unit has arrested 142 suspects involved in acts of terrorism from various groups during the 2023 period. This figure represented a decline compared to the previous year (2022), where 248 suspects were arrested, antaranews.com reported. "In 2022, we recorded 248 suspects arrested through law enforcement, compared to this year's total of 142. We see a significant decrease," said spokesperson for Densus 88 Anti-Terror, Senior Superintendent Aswin Siregar on Wednesday (20/12/2023). He said that of the 142 suspects arrested in 2023, 16 are still under investigation, 101 are in the process of investigation, 23 have been transferred to public prosecutors, and two suspects died during law enforcement in Lampung in April 2023. The 142 arrested suspects are associated with different terrorist groups or networks, including 29 from Jemaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD), 50 from the Jamaah Islamiyah (JI) network, 49 affiliated with JAD/JA and ISIS (AO group), 7 from Jemaah Ansharut Syariah (JAS), 5 from the Islamic State Indonesia Movement (NII), and 2 from the supporters of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI). According to the spokesperson , this decrease reflected the effectiveness and success of Densus 88 Anti-Terror officers or investigators in suppressing terrorism cases. "Almost all the arrests we made this year were pre-emptive and preventive strikes," he said He added that this achievement is in accordance with the policies of the INP Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and the Chief of Densus 88 Anti-Terror Police in the crackdown and prevention of terrorism offenses. "Repeat offenders have decreased in number according to statistics," said Aswin. Out of the 142 suspects arrested in 2023, four are involved in terrorism offenses and terrorism financing crimes. The majority of the suspects are male, totaling 138, while the remaining suspects are female. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
