Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights aimed for enhanced management of intellectual property in regions through the Regional Research and Innovation Agency (BRIDA). Director General of Intellectual Property Min Usihen said that strengthening the protection and utilization of intellectual property is among BRIDA's functions to foster research and innovation ecosystems in regions, focusing on policy elements and regional research and innovation infrastructure. "Since 2022, DJKI has engaged BRIDA in its regional activities organized by regional offices, including the Mobile Intellectual Property Clinic," she said on Saturday (6/4/2024), as reported by antaranews.com. Min explained that BRIDA is a new entity under local administration, with its formation and programs coordinated with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). This year, DJKI is concentrating on transforming Regional Device Organizations (OPD) into BRIDA/BAPPERIDA (Regional Planning, Development, Research, and Innovation Agency). Currently, there are 16 BRIDA/BAPPERIDA provinces and 91 BRIDA/BAPPERIDA districts/cities formed, with 320 BRIDA/BAPPERIDA provinces/districts/cities still in the process. "If all BRIDA can acquire intellectual property, it will significantly impact national intellectual property acquisition," he emphasized. Min also disclosed the results of the mapping of Geographical Indications (GI) in Indonesia, showing various GIs scattered across regions, ranging from agriculture to cultural arts. She hoped that, as the central government, DJKI, together with BRIN and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, could facilitate stakeholders through guidance. Min mentioned that last year, the thematic year for Geographical Indications was launched by the Minister of Law and Human Rights, which could serve as a reference and input for DJKI. "Hopefully, this initial meeting can lead to more technical discussions in the future," she said. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
