inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Vice Chairman of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Dave Laksono appreciated the decision of the Ministry of Communication and Digital to temporarily stop the World ID program to prevent potential misuse of citizens' personal data.

According to him, the termination of the World ID program by Komdigi shows the government's commitment to protecting the privacy and security of public data. He considered that the program that requires citizens' biometric scans such as retinas or faces for digital identification must go through an in-depth study before being widely implemented.

"This World ID was indeed stopped because we saw there is potential for irregularities. For what purpose and by whom the data gathered by scanning these people, this is still unclear," said Dave quoted by Antaranews, Jakarta, Wednesday (5/7/2025).

He emphasized the importance of transparency and strict supervision of personal data-based technology. When the mechanism for storing, managing, and the purpose of using data is unclear, he continued, the government is obliged to take firm steps to temporarily stop it.

He further stated that currently the Ministry of Communication and Digital is still investigating further the alleged irregularities in the program. The results of the data collection and policy evaluation will be the basis for the next steps.
