inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani emphasized that DPR is ready to accept the public's aspirations, which will be expressed during the demonstration on Thursday (8/27/2026). Puan also appealed to demonstrators to maintain order so that the expression of their aspirations can proceed safely and conducively.
Puan stated that the public has the right to express their opinions and aspirations. The DPR, she said, is open to receiving such input through audiences and direct meetings with representatives of the crowd.
"So, if the public wishes to express their input and aspirations, we will certainly welcome them at the House of Representatives building," Puan said in a statement in Jakarta, Wednesday (August 26, 2026).
According to Puan, the House of Representatives' openness to public aspirations had been established prior to the planned demonstration on Thursday. The House leadership, the heads of the House's supporting bodies (AKD), and the heads of the commissions took turns receiving members of the public who wished to express their aspirations.
"The House leadership may meet with demonstrators. Today, the House leadership also met with representatives from the public who wished to meet," she said.
Puan cited the example of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) previously receiving input from several academics regarding the drafting of the Draft Law (RUU) on Asset Confiscation.
Furthermore, Vice Speaker of the DPR RI, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, received an audience with representatives of honorary teachers who are members of the Non-ASN State School Teacher Advocacy Forum (Fagri).
A meeting was also held with employees of PT Pos Indonesia, who expressed their concerns regarding the certainty of delayed salary payments.
"We are taking turns meeting with the community members who wish to meet," said Puan.
Meanwhile, the United Pati Community Alliance (AMPB) confirmed that the demonstration, which will be held in front of the DPR RI Building on Thursday (8/27/2026), will be peaceful.
"We are in Jakarta with no intention of causing trouble. We support the movement of our friends in Greater Jakarta who will be holding a demonstration on August 27th," said Botok in Jakarta (8/26/2026).
In line with the planned demonstration, the Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police has deployed personnel to oversee the demonstrations at several locations in Jakarta.
