inp.polri.go.id - South Sumatra. The South Sumatra Regional Police strengthened its support for the national food security program through a coordination meeting on garlic development towards self-sufficiency in South Sumatra Province.
The coordination meeting, along with the South Sumatra Provincial Food Crops and Horticulture (TPH) Agriculture Service, took place in the TPH Agriculture Service Meeting Hall.
This coordination meeting was part of an effort to align garlic planting and development in South Sumatra as a contribution to the national food self-sufficiency target. The Ministry of Agriculture has set a target planting area of 100 hectares, while the South Sumatra Regional Police contributed by managing 81 hectares of land spread across five jurisdictions.
The involvement of the Indonesian National Police (INP) in the program demonstrates its support for the food security agenda and demonstrates its role in maintaining stability and supporting strategic government programs.
During this implementation, the INP acted as a facilitator and also oversaw program implementation in the field. Several aspects were highlighted in the coordination meeting, including seed availability, adjustments to planting seasons, and land management at elevations above 1,000 meters above sea level (MDPL).
This cross-sectoral coordination is crucial to ensure the program doesn't stop at the planting stage, but continues through maintenance and harvest. Synergy between the police and local governments is expected to help farmer groups address various technical challenges while creating conditions that support sustainable production.
The Director of Community Development for the South Sumatra Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Hari Purnomo, emphasized that the South Sumatra Regional Police are ready to oversee all stages of this strategic program, working with the local government and farmer groups.
"We are present not only to maintain security and prevent social conflict, but also to act as a facilitator to ensure the smooth running of this garlic self-sufficiency program for the welfare of farmers," emphasized Hari.
According to him, police involvement is aimed at supporting the creation of a conducive situation for farmer groups, while also strengthening coordination between stakeholders in dealing with various obstacles during the program.
