Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has warned that drug syndicates are increasingly exploiting housewives to serve as couriers in narcotics trafficking.

“Syndicates now target Indonesian women, particularly housewives, because they are perceived as less suspicious by authorities,” said BNN Chief Martinus Hukom during a press briefing on Monday (23/6/2025).

Between April and June 2025, 29 out of 285 arrested suspects were women—accounting for 20% of the total. BNN revealed some had progressed from courier roles to key positions such as recruiters, logistics coordinators, and financial handlers within the networks.

Chief Martinus emphasized the urgency of protecting women from syndicate manipulation, especially those lured by high financial rewards. He also highlighted the disturbing tactic of smuggling drugs using female anatomy.

“The strength of a nation rests on the moral foundation of its women. Empowering Indonesian women as agents of moral integrity is crucial in countering this growing trend,” he added, as quoted by antaranews.com
