Inp.polri.go.id - Sumedang.Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya Sugiarto said on Monday (13/6/2025) that four islands in the Anambas archipelago cannot be fully owned by private individuals, following reports of their alleged sale on foreign online platforms.

“No island can be entirely owned privately. At most, 70 percent can be utilized—and even that must follow strict legal boundaries,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The deputy Minister explained that while leasing island land is allowed, ownership is regulated under national law. Authorities, he added, are now reviewing the issue and ensuring such territories are properly inventoried and protected.

Earlier, the Regional Border Management Agency (BP2D) of Riau Islands confirmed it had coordinated with local administrations to verify the alleged online listings. BP2D of Riau Islands is working with the Anambas regency and the provincial administration to prevent public misinformation and uphold legal compliance.
