Inp.polri.go.id - Surabaya. East Java Regional Police Chief Inspector General Imam Sugianto confirmed on Thursday (16/1/2025) that the explosives in a fatal blast at the Mojokerto home of Aipda Maryudi originated from leftover fireworks.
The materials, stored after New Year’s Eve celebrations, were intended for use during Ramadan in March 2025. The explosion killed two of Maryudi’s relatives.
Investigations are ongoing by the Forensic Laboratory Division and East Java Police's Directorate of Criminal Investigation.
Police are examining whether a gas leak from five LPG cylinders—three 3-kg and two 12-kg—played a role in the incident.
“We’re investigating the link between the fireworks and possible gas leaks.” Chief Imam said.
The case is monitored by national police units, including Bareskrim and Irwasum Polri.
Maryudi faces legal accountability, with Ditreskrimum overseeing the case. Results from lab tests and witness interviews are expected next week to determine further actions.
