Inp.polri.go.id - Surabaya. East Java Regional Police intensified preventive patrols, hazard mapping, and enforcement actions against illegal land burning to halt forest and land fires on Wednesday (2/9/2026).

Following Indonesian National Police (INP) Chief Telegram Letter ST/1895/VIII/OPS.1.2./2026, police units mobilized Bhabinkamtibmas community policing officers to educate local communities and coordinated with relevant local agencies for early fire detection across high-risk forest and plantation zones.

"Prevention through education, patrols, and collaboration remains our priority," East Java Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Jules Abraham Abast stated in Surabaya. "However, if illegal forest or land burning is found to constitute a criminal offense, police will enforce the law professionally, strictly, and in accordance with statutory regulations."

He urged residents to refrain from clearing land using fire during the dry season and to immediately report any sightings of smoke or hotspots to facilitate swift emergency responses.
