Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A fire claimed the lives of an entire family in Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta, early Friday morning (17/4/2026).

Witnesses and authorities report that the blaze was ignited by a series of electrical sparks and explosions from a power line located directly in front of the victims' residence on Jalan Rambutan Timur VI. The fire spread rapidly into the home while the occupants were asleep, leaving them with little time to escape.

"Witnesses heard sparks that sounded like explosions. Upon stepping outside, they saw the electrical cables exploding and immediately contacted authorities," said Assistant Senior Inspector Alexander Tengbunan, the Head of Criminal Investigation at the Grogol Petamburan Police Office, as reported by  antaranews.com.

Emergency responders from the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agencyfaced significant obstacles during the rescue attempt. The house was heavily secured with interior padlocks and iron window trellises, forcing firefighters to break through the structure to gain entry. By the time the flames were extinguished, all family members were found deceased. The victims' remains have been transported to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital for further investigation as police work to confirm the technical cause of the short circuit.
