inp.polri.go.id - Tangerang. The Minister of Environment and Head of the Environmental Management Agency, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, issued a warning to landfill operators (TPA) throughout Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek).

They are required to cap their waste to prevent environmental pollution, including the spread of microplastics.

"I will give all landfill operators in Greater Jakarta time to immediately comply with the minister's directive and immediately cap their open dumps," said Minister Hanif, as reported by RRI on Friday (10/24/2025).

He made this statement during a review of the Jatiwaringin Landfill in Tangerang Regency. The Jatiwaringin Landfill is one of the locations sanctioned by the Ministry of Environment.

"However, I would like to express my appreciation for the local government's efforts to cap the piles of waste at the open dumping site. However, I was angered by this location as when I inspected it, there was a fire," he explained.

He believes this capping measure is necessary, including to prevent microplastics from spreading into the environment as it can end up in the human body, causing various health problems.

He also disclosed data from the National Waste Management Information System (SIPSN), which shows that plastic waste accounts for the second-highest amount, at 19.52 percent, of the total national waste generation of 34.9 million tons reported in 2024.
