inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq emphasized that 343 district/city governments are required to manage waste seriously in accordance with the mandate of Law Number 18 of 2008 concerning Waste Management.

"This policy is mandatory and must be implemented by all regional governments," said Minister Hanif on Tuesday (4/15/2025).

He explained that waste management is part of the national target in Presidential Regulation Number 12 of 2025 which is included in the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN). The government is targeting national waste management to reach 50 percent by 2025. However, to date the achievement is only around 39 percent.

"We have submitted this policy to 343 districts/cities and a number of provinces. All are trying to resolve the waste problem," he explained.

The Minister of Environment reminded that non-compliance with the policy can be subject to administrative and criminal sanctions. He also highlighted the Manggar TPAS as an example of the best waste management in Indonesia today.

"Waste management in Balikpapan is among the best. In fact, in the next three months, we predict it will develop further," he said.

The Ministry of Environment will also work with the Ministry of Public Works to support the improvement of waste management in Balikpapan, so that it can become a national model.

"Waste management must be a pillar in building a clean Indonesian civilization, before we enter the era of a developed country in 2045," concluded the Minister of Environment.
