Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Presidential spokesperson and State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi confirmed on Friday (11/7/2025) that Indonesia’s electric vehicle (EV) battery plant in Karawang, West Java, will proceed as planned, despite the recent corruption charges against PT Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC) CEO, Toto Nugroho.

“The project continues. The legal process is unrelated to investment plans. In fact, we welcome law enforcement as part of our anti-corruption efforts,” he said at the Presidential Palace, as quoted by antaranews.com.

PT IBC is part of a consortium with state-mining company PT ANTAM and China’s Ningbo Contemporary Brunp Lygend (CBL), a subsidiary of global battery maker CATL. The $5.9 billion nickel-based battery plant remains a strategic project for Indonesia’s green energy goals.

Following the CEO’s legal status, PT IBC released a statement ensuring that operations continue unaffected and the company upholds good corporate governance principles.

The Attorney General’s Office named Toto Nugroho among nine new suspects in a 2018–2023 crude oil corruption case involving state oil company PT Pertamina.
