Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Chief of Central Jakarta Metro Police Senior Superintendent Komarudin said that the officers from the Central Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service have successfully extinguished the fire that occurred at the National Museum in Jakarta on Saturday evening (16/9/2023). "The fire engulfed four rooms in Building A of the National Museum, and by 10:00 PM local time, the fire was extinguished," he said at the National Museum vicinity as reported by antaranews.com, adding that the cooling process in the affected site began at 10:15 PM as access along Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat where the Museum is located remained closed until 11:00 PM. The Chief announced that the Museum would remain closed for an undetermined period while they prepare an additional 180 personnel for security around the site. "We have prepared about 180 more personnel, but around 70 personnel were already deployed earlier because the security of national assets is a priority," he said, saying that further examination to determine the cause of the fire is to be conducted at the scene of the incident after the fire department declares it safe. The Central Jakarta Fire and Rescue Department deployed eight fire trucks and 32 personnel to extinguish the fire at the National Museum. Additional  fire fighters were  deployed, bringing the total to 52 personnel to combat the fire at the National Museum. Asril Rizal, the head of the fire and rescue department said that an electrical short circuit was the suspected cause of the fire at the National Museum, specifically in Building Block A, which houses the museum's collection exhibition. "The electrical short circuit behind the museum's exhibition area is believed to have originated from the carpentry area where building Block C was undergoing renovation," he said.
