Fire in Cipinang Claims Three Lives, Destroys 13 Homes

Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A fire broke out in Cipinang, East Jakarta, on Friday (20/9/2024), destroying 13 homes and claiming the lives of three children. 

The fire, believed to be caused by an electrical short circuit, occurred at Jalan Cipinang Baru, Pulogadung, around 9.43 am, according to antaranews.com.

"The victims are Kanaya (4), Rafka (3.5), and Asyifa (1.5)," said Abdul Wahid, the East Jakarta’s Fire and Rescue Department Head of Operations. The children were trapped inside a house on the second floor and could not be saved. Their bodies were taken to the Kramat Jati Police Hospital.

Seventy firefighters and 14 fire engines were deployed to control the blaze, which consumed 600 square meters of property. Estimated losses amount to Rp 1.8 billion, and 17 families have been displaced, now sheltering at the nearby Al Mujahidin Mushala.
