Acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, Dodi Yuleova, stated that the East Seram Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), as the field coordinator, received a report of the fire on Saturday (8/8/2026) evening at around 8:25 p.m.

However, the fire was only successfully extinguished on Monday (8/10/2026) evening due to various challenges in the field.

"The burned brush covered 2.5 hectares. The fire was finally extinguished on Monday, yesterday, at around 10:35 p.m.," she said in Jakarta on Tuesday (8/11/2026).

She explained that it took extra effort from the joint team to extinguish the fire because the fire was located in the steep and rocky hills of Waililan Hamlet, Negeri Bula Village, Bula District.

The joint team of officers, comprising personnel from the Indonesian Military (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (INP), and the Fire Department, had to climb to optimize the ground watering, as the hilly terrain was difficult for firefighters to reach.

"Furthermore, strong winds caused the fire to spread rapidly, burning the undergrowth that had dried out due to the prolonged dry season," he said.

Nevertheless, he assured that the joint team remained on standby to prevent the fire from reigniting due to the winds, and he also urged local residents to take precautionary measures to avoid activities involving fires in areas prone to fire.

"If you find any hotspots or indications of fire, immediately report them to the local BPBD so that action can be taken as early as possible," he said, urging local governments to strengthen preparedness and surveillance in fire-prone areas during the dry season.
