Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Fireworks caused fires in North Jakarta on New Year’s Eve, damaging the roof of the North Rawa Badak village office and three semi-permanent homes in Cilincing, according to the North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Fire and Rescue Agency.
"The first fire occurred in Cilincing, where fireworks hit semi-permanent houses, causing flames to spread rapidly," said Gatot Sulaeman, the Operations Head of the Fire and Rescue Agency, on Wednesday (1/1/2025).
The Cilincing fire burned three semi-permanent homes and three temporary shelters, locally known as bedeng, injuring one resident, a 70-year-old man, who is now receiving treatment at Cilincing General Hospital.
Firefighters were alerted at 12.20 am., deployed 40 personnel and eight fire engines, and extinguished the blaze by 2.06 am. The fire displaced 15 residents from six families and caused an estimated loss of Rp 294 million.
A second fire broke out at the North Rawa Badak village office at 12.34 am, sparked by a falling firework, damaging six square meters of roofing.
"We extinguished it quickly with three fire engines and 15 personnel," Sulaeman said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
