Inp.polri.go.id - Pekanbaru. The number of residents affected by floods in Pekanbaru, Riau, has reached 38,000 due to the overflowing Siak River, with the worst-hit area being Rumbai District, according to Mayor Agung Nugroho.
"Water levels in the Siak River have slightly receded, leading to a gradual decline in flooding. However, the number of affected residents peaked at 38,000 yesterday," he said on Sunday (9/3/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
The Pekanbaru administration is prioritizing food distribution, operating a public service mall kitchen with a capacity of 1,000 meals per day. The Social Affairs Office also provides 1,500 daily meals, previously reaching up to 1,700 portions.
To meet rising demands, the administration collaborates with small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to supply food, distributing between 7,000 and 14,000 portions daily.
Meanwhile, the local disaster management agency (BPBD) continues delivering aid to evacuation sites along Yos Sudarso Street, where many residents have chosen to stay in shelters for safety.
