According to Prabowo, this achievement was achieved in just one year through government policies and the hard work of all parties.
"Thanks to our policies and hard work, we achieved food self-sufficiency in just one year, which we previously targeted to achieve in four to five years," Prabowo said in his State Address at the 2026 Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) at the Parliament Building, Senayan, Jakarta, Friday (8/14/2026).
He explained that one of the steps taken by the government was to simplify regulations on fertilizer distribution. A total of 145 regulations were removed, streamlining fertilizer distribution.
Furthermore, the government successfully reduced fertilizer prices by 20 percent. Prabowo stated that this was the first such price reduction in the history of the Republic of Indonesia.
"We have eliminated 145 regulations on fertilizer distribution. We have successfully lowered fertilizer prices by 20 percent. This is the first time this has happened in the history of the Republic of Indonesia," he said.
According to Prabowo, this policy not only impacted farmers by lowering fertilizer prices, but also increased profits at PT Pupuk Indonesia. He said the company's profits increased by 252.8 percent.
"But at the same time, PT Pupuk Indonesia's profits increased by 252.8 percent," Prabowo said.
Prabowo said these various policies contributed to the achievement of self-sufficiency in eight food commodities this year.
The eight commodities include rice, corn, consumer sugar, chicken, eggs, shallots, large chilies, and cayenne pepper.
The President considered this achievement part of the government's promise to fulfill. He said the results demonstrate that various problems considered complex for decades can begin to be resolved through courageous decision-making, hard work, and mutual cooperation.
