Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has clarified the walkout by several delegations during President Prabowo Subianto’s speech at the D-8 Summit in Cairo, Egypt, attributing the departures to overlapping meetings considered a common occurrence at international forums.

“A walkout during sessions is standard in international events like the UN, as delegations often attend parallel bilateral meetings,” said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Rolliansyah Soemirat on Sunday (22/12/2024).

The incident, which took place during the summit held from17 to 19  December 2024, was captured in a video showing some delegates exiting while President Prabowo addressed the plenary, according to antaranews.com.

Rolliansyah assured that President Prabowo engaged with all delegation heads, including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, before and after the event. The two leaders reportedly had friendly discussions and shared a table at the summit’s luncheon.

President Prabowo spoke on fostering youth investment and supporting SMEs while highlighting economic development and pressing issues in Palestine and Lebanon during his address to the D-8, a forum of eight developing nations.
