Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  A tragic fire in South Jakarta's Tebet area has claimed the lives of four children after flames engulfed three houses on Jalan Kutilang, Bukit Duri, early Saturday morning (19/7/2025).

“They were among 27 residents affected by the blaze,” said Syamsul Huda, the Head of the South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The victims, identified by initials, were 13-year old PL, 3 year-old K, 7 year-old A, and 4 year-old A. Two injured women, identified as A and M, were rushed with the children to the Indonesian National Police (INP)’s Bhayangkara Hospital.

Authorities suspect an electrical short circuit caused the fire, which burned approximately 200 square meters and caused an estimated loss of Rp 674 million (USD 41,000). The fire broke out at 6.21 am, and 76 firefighters with 20 fire trucks were deployed. Narrow access roads reportedly hampered evacuation efforts, trapping the victims.
