Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A tragic accident at an unguarded railway crossing in Tuko Village, Grobogan, Central Java, resulted in four deaths and multiple injuries in the early hours of Friday (1/1/2026).
The collision involved a Toyota Avanza carrying nine passengers and the Argo Bromo Anggrek train traveling from west to east.
"The incident occurred around 2.52 am. The car reportedly stalled on the tracks just as the train was approaching at close range," said First Inspector Arie Eko, the Head of the Traffic Law Enforcement Unit at Grobogan Sub-regional Police, as cited by antaranews.com.
The force of the impact threw the car approximately 20 meters, striking a telecommunications pole before landing in a nearby rice field.
The victims, including a 2-year-old and a 10-year-old, were taken to a local health center but were declared deceased shortly after. Two other passengers remain in serious condition at RSUD Purwodadi hospital, while the driver survived with minor injuries.
Preliminary investigations suggest the accident was caused by a lack of caution at the unmarked crossing. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and ensure the tracks are clear before crossing, especially in areas without safety barriers.
