Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  President Prabowo Subianto announced the formation of the Layoff Mitigation and Worker Welfare Task Force during the International Workers' Day (May Day) commemoration at the National Monument (Monas) square in Jakarta on Friday (1/1/2026).

"Do not worry, we will defend the interests of the laborers. For those threatened by layoffs, we will stand up for and protect you," he said before thousands of workers, as reported by antaranews.com.

The task force, established under Presidential DecreeNo. 10 of 2026, serves as a government safeguard for employees facing job insecurity due to volatile global economic conditions. 

In a bold assertion of state intervention, the President declared that the government is prepared to take decisive action if private companies are unable to sustain their operations. 

"If there are entrepreneurs who give up, do not worry; our country is strong. The state will take over and defend the Indonesian people," he added.

Alongside labor protections, the President touched upon Indonesia's resilience during the current global crisis, expressing optimism regarding national energy independence and the achievement of fuel and energy self-sufficiency in the near future.
