Inp.polri.go.id - Bandung. The implementation of free education as mandated by the Constitutional Court is likely to begin in the 2026 academic year, Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Atip Latipulhayat said on Monday (9/6/2025).
“It would be difficult to implement this year because the budget cycle is already halfway through,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
Atip emphasized that the Constitutional Court ruling, which mandates free education for public and private elementary and secondary schools, requires careful consideration of funding sources.
“We’re currently coordinating with other ministries to explore budget reallocation possibilities. Ultimately, it depends on the available budget,” he explained.
Atip also noted that technical guidelines for the implementation of this policy are not yet available, and thorough calculations are still needed before enforcement.
The Constitutional Court ruled that both national and regional governments must provide free education at the primary and secondary levels, including for private institutions.
