The Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs has launched an evaluation of airport security protocols in Papua following a recent attack on a Cessna Grand Caravan, a PT Smart Cakrawala Aviation aircraft, which was targeted by armed groups while operating the Tanah Merah-Danawage route.
"The government has taken coordinated steps to overhaul aviation security systems across Papua," the Ministry stated in an official release published by antaranews.com on Friday (20/2/2026).
As an immediate safety measure, several airports in high-risk zones have been temporarily closed to protect flight crews and civilians.
This suspension allows the military and the police personnel to reinforce regional security and secure vital transportation hubs.
The ministry that the state will not yield to armed groups threatening public safety. He asserted that maintaining stability in Papua is a non-negotiable prerequisite for public service delivery, infrastructure development, and national sovereignty.
