Inp.polri.go.id - Tanjung Pinang. Governor of Riau Islands Ansar Ahmad has called on the people of Riau Islands not to be swayed by rumors surrounding the relocation of the Rempang-Galang community, emphasizing the importance of unity and collaboration to maintain a conducive atmosphere, particularly in Batam. He said that that a stable environment is crucial for sustained investments and the overarching goal is to advance the Riau Islands in the future. "Our primary objective is to enhance the well-being of the people of Riau Islands," the governor said during a press conference on Tuesday (12/9/23). He explained the need for the entire Riau Islands community to stand together, cooperate, and show mutual respect to establish a secure and harmonious atmosphere in Batam City. He called for heightened vigilance against any attempts to divide the province's residents, highlighting the importance of effective communication with the community to ensure clear understanding and address concerns. The development of Rempang Island into an Eco City has been designated as a national strategic investment project by the central government, offering significant economic potential for the Riau Islands and Indonesia as a whole. This project is governed by Coordinating Minister for the Economy Regulation No. 7 of 2021, binding all stakeholders to comply. With collective cooperation and commitment, the project holds the potential to deliver substantial benefits, boost economic growth, and enhance the welfare of the Riau Islands' residents and all of Indonesia. Datok Seri Setia Laksana Raja Alhafiz, the General Secretary of the Malay Customary Institution (LAM) Riau Islands, called for community-wide efforts to maintain security and expressed hope that no hardships would befall the people. "We trust that the government will act in the best interests of its citizens, and we hope everyone will accept it with grace," he said. Muhammad Rudi, Head of the Batam Free Trade Zone and Free Port Management Agency (BP Batam), shared details about the relocation project that will take place in Dapur 3, covering an expansive 450-hectare land area. The development includes the construction of homes with Malay influences, educational facilities, places of worship, sports fields, docks, and infrastructure improvements, all designed to meet the community's needs. Rudi also emphasized that temporary relocation plans would come with support such as house rentals, financial assistance, flats, and other options to safeguard the relocated families and communities.
