General Wahyu Widada Receives MURI Award for Dismantling Fredy Pratama's Drug Network

Police Commissioner General Wahyu Widada, the Head of the Criminal Investigation Board of the Indonesian National Police (INP),  has been recognized with a prestigious award from the Indonesian World Records Museum (MURI) for his pivotal role in exposing the international drug network led by Fredy Pratama. MURI Founder Jaya Suprana said that the achievement of the Criminal Investigation Board's  team, along with their counterparts in Thailand, Malaysia, and the United States, to dismantle the drug network has saved  thousands of young lives in Indonesia k. "General,  what you have done has saved the young generation of Indonesia," he said while presenting the award to General Widada at the Bhayangkara Field, Jakarta, on Tuesday (12/9/2023). . The Police Criminal Investigation Board has established a specialized task force under the codename "Operation Escobar Indonesia" to uncover Fredy Pratama's international drug syndicate. The relentless pursuit of the Fredy Pratama network spanned from 2020 to 2023, leading to the disclosure of 408 police reports and the identification of 884 suspects. In May 2023, Operation Escobar Indonesia led to the apprehension of 39 suspects. The INP's Criminal Investigation Board confiscated substantial drug-related evidence and assets linked to Fredy Pratama, including 10.2 tons of methamphetamine, 116,346 ecstasy pills, billions of rupiah in cash, as well as various properties. The total estimated value of the confiscated assets reached Rp10.5 trillion during the period from 2020 to 2023. This breakthrough in dismantling Fredy Pratama's drug network was made possible through collaborative investigative efforts involving the INP, the Royal Thai Police, the Royal Malaysian Police, DEA-United States, and various other law enforcement agencies such as PPATK, BNN, Directorate General of Immigration, Customs and Excise, and the Indonesian Attorney General's Office.
