inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that the government has coordinated across agencies to extinguish forest and land fires in various areas.
Prasetyo, delivering a press statement after a meeting at the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Building in Jakarta on Monday (8/10/2026), stated that the government continues to coordinate with various relevant parties to ensure immediate extinguishing to prevent the fires from spreading.
"Some of the hotspots with the highest number of hotspots are in West Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan, and a fairly large one is in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park in East Java. We continue to coordinate with the East Java Provincial Government, the Regional Military Commander, the Regional Police Chief, the Minister of Forestry, and the heads of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Office to make every effort to extinguish the fires as quickly as possible to prevent further spread," he said.
He added that a coordination meeting has also been held with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to design weather modification operations (OMC).
Although OMC is not possible at all hotspots, the government continues to monitor developments regularly.
"We are coordinating all equipment, including water bombing, helicopters, and aircraft, to help combat forest and land fires, in accordance with the President's instructions and orders last night," he said.
Furthermore, Prasetyo also urged the public to avoid activities that could generate sparks.
"We urge the public that currently we are in very dry weather conditions, making small embers susceptible to fire ignition. Therefore, we strongly urge everyone to exercise self-awareness and avoid any actions that could potentially cause uncontrolled fires," he said.
Previously, Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni emphasized that the President has instructed all levels of government to protect the public from the threat of forest and land fires during the dry season.
He reminded that forest and land fires not only damage forests, but also disrupt people's lives because they can trigger acute respiratory infections (ARI), close schools, hamper economic activity and disrupt airport operations.
