inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi confirmed that the government is currently focused on handling forest and land fires in several regions and that there are no plans to replace officials who have failed to control fires in their respective areas.

At the Presidential Palace Complex, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo conveyed that President Prabowo Subianto has requested that forest and land fire management be carried out as optimally as possible amidst the increased potential for fires due to the El Niño phenomenon.

"As we also stated yesterday, the central government fully supports whatever is needed by regional governments, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), our colleagues at Manggala Agni from the Ministry of Forestry, and provincial governments. We are giving our full support," said Prasetyo Hadi in Jakarta on Tuesday (8/11/2026).

Prasetyo also reminded the public to avoid activities that could create the potential for forest and land fires, especially when El Niño creates dry conditions that make fires spread more easily.

"We've prepared everything, including the OMC (Ocean Modification Operation), the Weather Modification Operation, but technically, according to the Head of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), cloud conditions aren't always conducive to weather modification operations producing rain," explained Prasteyo Hadi.

Previously, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago stated that the government is currently working to address forest and land fires covering 107,000 hectares across several regions. Particular focus is being given to areas categorized as vulnerable, namely Jambi, South Sumatra, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, and Riau.
